President Shehu Shagari

Shehu Shagari was the first democratically elected President of Nigeria, serving from 1979 to 1983. A member of the National Party of Nigeria, he focused on economic development and modernization during his presidency, but his administration faced challenges, including economic difficulties and political instability, which ultimately led to a military coup that ended his rule.
