Rahma Esslouani

refugee Morocco

Rahma Esslouani is a non-binary individual from Morocco who fled their home country due to severe persecution related to their gender identity and sexual orientation. In July 2024, Rahma arrived in Canada with the assistance of Rainbow Railroad, an organization that helps LGBTQ+ individuals escape life-threatening situations. Facing violence and societal discrimination in Morocco, as well as forced marriage pressures from their family, Rahma sought refuge in Turkey, where they continued to experience persecution. After being arrested in Turkey, Rahma reached out to Rainbow Railroad for help, which offered them hope and support. They describe their arrival in Canada as a dream come true, allowing them to finally live authentically and without fear.
