Ramesh Balwani

Ramesh 'Sunny' Balwani is a former technology executive and the president of Theranos, the blood-testing startup founded by Elizabeth Holmes. Balwani played a key role in the company's operations and was instrumental in its early growth, helping to raise nearly $1 billion from investors. However, Theranos became infamous for its fraudulent claims regarding its blood-testing technology, which was purported to perform a range of tests using only a few drops of blood. In 2018, Balwani was indicted alongside Holmes for defrauding investors, and in 2022 he was sentenced to 12 years and 11 months in prison. Recently, a U.S. court upheld his conviction, reinforcing the legal ramifications of his involvement in the controversial startup.
