Renato Baretić

Renato Baretić was a prominent Croatian journalist, screenwriter, and poet, best known for his acclaimed debut novel 'Osmi povjerenik' ('The Eighth Commissioner'), published in 2003. Born in Zagreb in 1963, Baretić moved to Split, where he established himself as a versatile writer with a unique voice, blending humor and empathy in his storytelling. His work often reflected the complexities of Croatian society during the transition period after the fall of communism. In addition to his literary achievements, Baretić was a well-respected TV critic and contributed to various media outlets, making significant contributions to Croatian culture. He passed away at the age of 62 due to complications from a long illness.
