Robert Brout
Robert Brout was a Belgian theoretical physicist best known for his groundbreaking work on the Higgs mechanism, which he formulated in collaboration with François Englert in 1964. This theoretical framework proposed the existence of the Higgs boson, a fundamental particle responsible for giving mass to other particles within the Standard Model of particle physics. Brout's contributions were pivotal in the eventual experimental discovery of the Higgs boson at CERN in 2012, a finding that confirmed their theoretical predictions and earned them both the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2013. Throughout his career, Brout was associated with various academic institutions, contributing to the fields of quantum mechanics and cosmology until his passing in 2011.
