As the brother of Donald Reid Cabral, a key conspirator in the plot against Trujillo, Robert was drawn into the conspiracy's chaotic aftermath. Notably, he was forced to harbor several conspirators in his home, which led to a violent confrontation with Antonio de la Maza, who assaulted Robert's wife during a tense standoff. Despite his familial connections to the conspiracy, Robert attempted to maintain a distance from its political machinations.
