Rose Ann Forbes, also known as 'Mammy Forbes', was a prominent figure in Jamaica's healing traditions, running one of the most significant balmyards for nearly 60 years. She established the Blake’s Pen balmyard in the 1870s after receiving a vision that called her to heal the sick. Her work in the balmyard intertwined healing practices with revivalist religious worship, although she faced legal challenges, including a conviction for practicing medicine without a license in 1910.
