Saidou Kamara

Saidou Kamara is a young man from Guinea who arrived in Greece as an unaccompanied minor in 2019. He gained media attention in March 2022 when he was celebrated as an outstanding student, carrying the Greek flag during a school parade. Despite his academic achievements, his asylum application was initially rejected, prompting a public outcry for his right to remain in Greece. Following this, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis intervened, leading to the successful reevaluation of Kamara's asylum status, allowing him to stay in the country. His case also inspired a new legislative provision aimed at providing residency permits for unaccompanied minors who have successfully integrated into the Greek education system.
