Salma Niazi

Salma Niazi is a prominent Afghan journalist and the founder of Afghan Times, recognized as the 'Young Journalist of the Year' by One Young World. At 24 years old and currently in exile in Dublin, Ireland, she courageously amplifies the voices of Afghan women while reporting on the oppressive conditions under Taliban rule. After fleeing Afghanistan in February 2022, she has continued her work by launching the Open Mic Podcast, which shares personal stories of resilience from young Afghan women. Niazi’s commitment to journalism highlights the critical role of female reporters in advocating for freedom of expression and human rights in one of the world's most dangerous environments for journalists.
