Sami Balogji

Sami Balogji is a Congolese artist born in 1978 in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo. He works between his hometown and Brussels, identifying himself as an international artist rather than being confined to a single cultural identity. His work often explores the lingering effects of colonialism and the complex socio-political realities of contemporary Congo. Balogji's latest exhibition, 'Echoes of History, Shadows of Progress,' showcases installations, video art, and photography that reflect his artistic research on the historical exchanges between the Kingdom of Congo and Europe, emphasizing the ongoing impact of colonial legacies. As a member of the French Order of Arts and Letters, he has received numerous awards and scholarships, and continues to challenge societal narratives while navigating the dichotomy between his African and European influences.
