Samuel Salamander
Samuel Salamander was a Polish Jew who fled to the Soviet Union during World War II and spent several years in Gulags. After the war, he settled in the Föhrenwald Displaced Persons camp with his children, including Rachel and her brother Beno. Samuel faced immense challenges as a single father dealing with his own trauma and the loss of his wife, but he remained committed to providing for and supporting his children as they navigated their new lives in post-war Germany.
