Sara Khadem is an Iranian chess player who also gained international attention for competing without a hijab at the Rapid Chess Championship in Almaty, Kazakhstan, in December 2022. Following her defiance, she sought refuge in Spain and has since acquired Spanish nationality, allowing her to compete for Spain in international chess tournaments.
