Sarah Winchester

Sarah Winchester was an American heiress and the widow of firearm magnate William Wirt Winchester. She is best known for the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, California, an expansive and architecturally unique mansion that was under constant construction throughout her life. Legend has it that she believed she was haunted by the spirits of those killed by Winchester rifles and built the house as an escape from these spirits, leading to its labyrinthine design and many peculiar features.
