Sidney Cornell

Sidney Cornell was a distinguished British soldier, recognized as the first black paratrooper to land in Normandy on D-Day. Born in Portsmouth in 1913, he served with the 7th Parachute Battalion during World War II, earning a Distinguished Conduct Medal for his bravery. His actions in battle, particularly as a company runner amidst heavy enemy fire, exemplified his remarkable courage and resilience. Tragically, he lost his life in 1945 during a bridge explosion in Germany. His legacy continues to inspire, notably influencing the character Lt Arthur Kingsley in the video game Call of Duty: Vanguard.
