Silvio Waisbord

Silvio Waisbord is a prominent scholar in the fields of journalism, politics, and communication in Latin America. With a PhD in Sociology from the University of California, San Diego, he has authored over twenty books and more than 200 academic publications since his first book was published in 1995. Currently, he is a professor at the School of Media and Public Affairs at George Washington University, serves as the editor of the International Communication Journal, and is the president of the International Communication Association. His work focuses on the dynamic relationship between media and political power, particularly in the context of increasing violence against the press and the rise of hostile political rhetoric. Waisbord's insights are particularly relevant in light of the growing concerns regarding press freedom in Latin America, as highlighted by recent reports from the Inter-American Press Association.
