With a PhD in Sociology from the University of California, San Diego, he has authored over twenty books and more than 200 academic publications since his first book was published in 1995. Currently, he is a professor at the School of Media and Public Affairs at George Washington University, serves as the editor of the International Communication Journal, and is the president of the International Communication Association.
