Su Ling

Su Ling is a Chinese mother whose poignant story highlights the emotional struggles faced by many parents in China. After giving birth to her first daughter, she was compelled to leave the child with her in-laws shortly after, returning to work in Beijing as a translator. Tragically, she was later informed that her daughter had died from an unusual illness, never given the chance to say goodbye. Years later, after enduring the pain of her loss, she became pregnant again, allowed under Chinese law to have another child after the death of her first. This narrative sheds light on the often heart-wrenching realities of motherhood in contemporary China.
