Tariq ibn Ziyad
Tariq ibn Ziyad was a Berber military commander who led the Muslim conquest of the Iberian Peninsula in 711 AD. His landing at Tarifa marked the beginning of the Umayyad conquest of Hispania, and his victory at the Battle of Guadalete established Muslim rule in much of Spain for centuries. Tariq is remembered for his strategic acumen and his motivational speech to his troops before the battle.
