Tobias Smollett

Tobias Smollett (1721-1771) was a Scottish novelist and satirist, famous for his picaresque novels and vivid portrayal of 18th-century life. Often regarded as one of the first famous tourists, Smollett's travels across Europe provided him with rich experiences that he reflected in his works, including his observations of Nice, where he humorously documented the local customs and his own adventures by the sea.
