
Újlaki Miklós
Újlaki Miklós, born around 1410 in present-day Croatia, was a prominent Hungarian nobleman and a significant political figure during the 15th century. As the son of László macsó bán, he inherited vast estates after the early deaths of his father and brother. He served as the macsói bán and held various important titles, including the voivode of Transylvania, where he initially allied with Hunyadi János against the Ottomans before later opposing him. His political maneuvers often shifted, as he supported different factions based on his interests, showcasing the turbulent alliances of the time. Notably, he played a key role in the execution of Hunyadi László and later became involved in the political conflicts against King Mátyás. Újlaki's legacy is marked by his complex relationships with other nobles and his fluctuating loyalties, ultimately leading to his death in 1477.
