UN Interim Force in Lebanon
The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) is a United Nations peacekeeping mission established in 1978 to oversee the cessation of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah and to assist the Lebanese government in restoring its authority in the south of the country. The force operates under a mandate to monitor the Blue Line, the border demarcation between Israel and Lebanon, and to support humanitarian efforts and the Lebanese Armed Forces. Recently, UNIFIL condemned an aerial drop of unidentified chemicals by the Israel Defense Forces, which impeded the peacekeeping operations and raised concerns about the potential health risks to both peacekeepers and local civilians.
