
Viktor Kuksa
Viktor Kuksa is an 85-year-old Ukrainian dissident known for his involvement in a significant act of protest during the Soviet era. Born in 1940 in the village of Savarka, he became a political prisoner for two years after he and fellow dissident Georgiy Moskalenko raised a homemade Ukrainian flag on the roof of the Kyiv Institute of National Economy in 1966. Kuksa's activism was motivated by a desire to highlight Ukraine's struggle for independence and to challenge the Soviet narrative. He was rehabilitated in 2007 and awarded several honors for his bravery, including the Order of Courage.
