Vlad Plahotniuc is a Moldovan oligarch and former leader of the Democratic Party of Moldova, known for his significant influence in the country's politics and economy. He was embroiled in numerous controversies, including allegations of corruption and his involvement in the infamous 'billion-dollar theft' from Moldovan banks in 2014. Facing increasing pressure from the United States, Plahotniuc fled Moldova during a political crisis in 2019, renouncing his party leadership. As of February 2023, he has been placed on international wanted lists by Interpol for charges including money laundering and forming a criminal organization.
