General-locotenent Vladimir Alekseiev is a high-ranking officer in the Russian military and serves as the Deputy Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU). Alekseiev was placed under European Union sanctions following accusations against Russian services for a 2018 nerve agent attack in Salisbury, UK. He has also mediated conflicts involving the Wagner Group led by Yevgeny Prigozhin. Recently, he was shot multiple times in a residential area of Moscow, prompting a criminal investigation into attempted murder.
