Wallace Hartley

Wallace Hartley was the bandleader of the Titanic's orchestra, famously known for leading his musicians in playing the hymn 'Nearer My God To Thee' as the ship sank after hitting an iceberg in 1912. Hartley and his fellow band members, who continued to play to calm passengers during the disaster, perished along with over 1,500 others, becoming symbols of bravery and sacrifice in the face of tragedy.
