XXIII. Ioannes

Born Angelo Roncalli on November 25, 1881, in Italy, XXIII. Ioannes served as Pope from 1958 until his death in 1963. Before his papacy, he was an apostolic delegate to Turkey and Greece, where he made significant contributions to interfaith dialogue and humanitarian efforts during World War II, particularly in helping Jewish refugees. He is remembered for his extensive outreach and for initiating the Second Vatican Council, which aimed to modernize the Church.
