Yosef Hamra

Rabbi Yosef Hamra, now 77, is a prominent figure in the Jewish community, having recently returned to Damascus for the first time in over three decades. He fled Syria with his family in the 1990s after the lifting of restrictions on Jewish emigration under then-President Hafez al-Assad. During his visit, he led a Torah reading in a synagogue, marking a significant moment for the dwindling Jewish community in Syria, which now consists of only a handful of elderly members.
