The 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, is the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism and a prominent advocate for peace and compassion. Born in 1935, he was recognized at a young age as the reincarnation of his predecessor and was formally enthroned in 1940. After China’s annexation of Tibet in 1950, he fled to India in 1959, where he established a government-in-exile and has since worked tirelessly to promote Tibetan culture and autonomy. A Nobel Peace Prize laureate, the Dalai Lama is known worldwide for his teachings on mindfulness and nonviolence.
