Amedeo Modigliani
Amedeo Modigliani was an Italian painter and sculptor known for his unique style characterized by elongated forms and portraits with a sense of emotional depth. Born in 1884 in Livorno, Italy, he faced numerous adversities throughout his life, including chronic illness and poverty. Despite these challenges, Modigliani found solace in art, studying under various influences, including the Macchiaioli movement. He moved to Paris, where he became part of the vibrant avant-garde community. His works, often reflecting themes of beauty and melancholy, were not widely appreciated during his lifetime, leading to a struggle with self-doubt. Tragically, Modigliani's life was cut short when he died in 1920 at the age of 35, yet his legacy endures, with his paintings fetching millions at auction, including a recent sale of his work 'Portrait of Lunia Czechowska' at Christie's for an estimated £7 million.
