Andrea Malavé

Andrea Malavé is a young resident of Vieques, Puerto Rico, born in 1999, the same year a U.S. Navy bomb accidentally killed local resident David Sanes. Although she did not experience the military bombings firsthand, she embodies the ongoing legacy of military presence in Vieques, as locals recount the historical struggles against military exercises that have disrupted their community and environment. Her fears reflect the collective anxiety surrounding recent U.S. military activities in the region.
