Andrew Taylor Still
Andrew Taylor Still (1828-1917) was an American physician and the founder of osteopathic medicine, a holistic approach to healthcare that emphasizes the interrelationship between the body's systems. After experiencing the loss of three children to meningitis, he developed his medical philosophy, which focuses on the body's ability to heal itself and the importance of treating the whole person rather than just symptoms. In 1892, he established the first school of osteopathic medicine in Kirksville, Missouri, which laid the foundation for the development of the osteopathic profession. Still's innovative methods and beliefs about health and wellness have had a lasting impact on modern medicine and the training of osteopathic physicians (DOs).
