Constantin al XI-lea Paleologul was the last Byzantine Emperor, reigning from 1449 until his death in 1453 during the fall of Constantinople. He is remembered for his heroic defense of the city against the Ottoman forces led by Sultan Mehmed II, ultimately sacrificing his life in the struggle to preserve the Byzantine Empire.
