David Frankfurter
David Frankfurter was a Yugoslavian medical student born in 1909 in Daruvar, Croatia, known for assassinating Wilhelm Gustloff, the head of the NSDAP in Switzerland, in 1936. Frankfurter, who came from a Jewish Orthodox family, was deeply affected by the rise of Nazism and witnessed antisemitic violence firsthand, prompting his decision to act against Gustloff. His actions were driven by a desire to defend Jewish honor and to resist the Nazi influence in Switzerland, a country he had come to love. After the assassination, he was arrested, tried, and sentenced to 18 years in prison, but was later pardoned after World War II and emigrated to Israel, where he passed away in 1982.
