Doremus Jessup

Doremus Jessup is a fictional character created by Sinclair Lewis in his novel "It Can’t Happen Here," where he serves as the voice of reason and resistance against the authoritarian regime of Berzelius Windrip. As the editor of a newspaper, Jessup becomes a target of the regime for his outspoken opposition to Windrip's policies and ultimately is imprisoned for his beliefs.
