Elián González

Elián González is a Cuban national who became an emblematic figure in the late 1990s due to his dramatic rescue at sea and the subsequent international custody battle between his family in the United States and his father in Cuba. After surviving a tragic boat capsizing that claimed his mother's life during an attempt to reach Florida, he was at the center of a highly publicized legal and diplomatic conflict that drew widespread attention, ultimately leading to his return to Cuba in 2000. Now at 31, González works as an industrial engineer, is married, has a daughter, and has been serving as a national deputy since 2023.
