Ernst vom Rath was a Nazi diplomat who was shot and killed by Herschel Grynszpan in 1938. His assassination became a pivotal moment in Nazi Germany's anti-Semitic campaign, as the regime portrayed him as a martyr, using the incident to incite widespread violence against Jews during Kristallnacht.
