
Esmail Ghaani
Esmail Ghaani is a senior Iranian military officer and commander of the Quds Force, a special unit of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) responsible for extraterritorial operations. He succeeded Qassem Soleimani after the latter's assassination in 2020 and is known for his role in shaping Iran's foreign policy, particularly in relation to Iraq and Syria. Ghaani was recently in the news for his visit to Baghdad before the Arab League Summit in 2025, where he conveyed a message of support for negotiations between Iran and the United States regarding nuclear agreements.
