Ferdinand E. Marcos was a Filipino politician who served as the 10th President of the Philippines from 1965 to 1986. His regime is marked by martial law, which he imposed in 1972, leading to widespread human rights abuses and the suppression of dissent. Marcos ruled with an iron fist, amassing substantial wealth and engaging in corruption while receiving U.S. support during the Cold War era. His presidency ended with the People Power Revolution in 1986, which forced him into exile and restored democracy in the Philippines.
