Fernando Henrique Cardoso, commonly known as FHC, is a Brazilian sociologist and politician who served as the President of Brazil from 1995 to 2002. A member of the Social Democracy Party, FHC is noted for his role in stabilizing the Brazilian economy through the implementation of the Real Plan, which introduced a new currency and helped to curb hyperinflation. His administration also focused on social policies and privatization of state-owned enterprises, such as Petrobras, promoting competition in the energy sector.
