Giovanni Antonio Canal, better known as Canaletto, was an Italian painter born in Venice in 1697. He is renowned for his stunning depictions of Venetian landscapes and cityscapes, often characterized by their precise architectural details and vibrant light. Canaletto became extremely popular among British art collectors in the 18th century, and his works have remained highly sought after in the art market, with many pieces fetching record prices at auctions.
