Hans Fittko
Hans Fittko was a German communist and an important ally in the underground movement during World War II, renowned for his efforts to assist persecuted individuals in fleeing from the Nazis. Together with his wife, Lisa, he helped guide many refugees across the perilous Pyrenees mountains to safety in Spain. Following the war, the Fittkos eventually settled in the United States, where Hans struggled with the psychological scars of their experiences until his passing in 1960.
