Varian Fry

Varian Fry was an American journalist and a prominent figure in the effort to rescue European intellectuals fleeing the Nazis during World War II. In 1940, he established an emergency rescue committee in France that helped save thousands of persecuted individuals, collaborating with local activists like Lisa Fittko to facilitate safe passage to Spain and beyond.
