Heloisa Teixeira was a prominent Brazilian academic, writer, and feminist thinker, known for her contributions to Brazilian culture and literature over the last six decades. Born on July 26, 1939, in Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, she graduated in Classical Letters from PUC-Rio in 1961. Teixeira actively participated in significant cultural transformations in Brazil, from the tumultuous 1960s to the democratization of culture in the 2000s. Despite being recognized as one of the leading feminist intellectuals in Brazil, she disliked being labeled as an 'intellectual' and rejected the notion of being treated as a 'great thinker.' In 2023, she adopted her maternal surname, Teixeira, and took her seat in the Academia Brasileira de Letras, where she initiated important projects focusing on racial and social issues in literature. She passed away on September 28, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of activism and scholarship.
