Hungkar Dorje Rinpoche
Hungkar Dorje Rinpoche was a prominent Tibetan Buddhist leader known for his efforts to preserve Tibetan culture and identity. Born in 1969 in Qinghai, China, he became the 10th abbot of Longen Monastery in 2002 and founded the Qinghai Provincial Gesar Charity Foundation to aid impoverished Tibetans. Rinpoche was committed to education, establishing a technical school for Tibetan children, which was targeted by the Chinese government’s campaign against Tibetan cultural institutions. His activism led to closer scrutiny from authorities, culminating in his detention in Vietnam and subsequent death in March 2023, raising international concerns about China's repression of Tibetan religious figures.
