Illja Matvijenko
Illja Matvijenko is a young Ukrainian boy who became a poignant symbol of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine after being separated from his family during a Russian attack that killed his mother. Following a harrowing experience of being taken and offered for adoption in occupied territories, his eventual return in 2022 drew international attention to the issue of abducted children, as well as the difficulties faced by Ukraine in reclaiming its missing youth amidst the war.
