
Ján Palach
Ján Palach was a Czech student who became a symbol of resistance against the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968. His self-immolation on January 16, 1969, was a protest against the apathy of the Czechoslovak people towards the loss of their freedoms. Palach's act inspired a wave of protests and has since been commemorated annually, representing the struggle for democracy and human rights in Central Europe.
