
Jaromír Štětina
Jaromír Štětina was a prominent Czech politician, writer, and journalist, known for his influential role in the Czech political landscape and his commitment to social justice. Born in 1941, he initially gained recognition as a war correspondent in the former Soviet Union and became a notable figure in journalism after the Velvet Revolution. He served as the editor-in-chief of Lidové noviny and later as a senator and Member of the European Parliament representing the TOP 09 party. Throughout his career, Štětina was an outspoken critic of communism and a passionate advocate for human rights, particularly in relation to Ukraine during its political upheavals. He co-founded the non-profit organization Člověk v nouzi, dedicated to humanitarian efforts, and remained active in political discourse until his passing in 2023.
