Jean Augustine is a prominent Canadian politician and educator, recognized as the first Black woman elected as a Member of Parliament in Canada. Serving from 1993 to 2006, she represented the Liberal Party and was a trailblazer for diversity in Canadian politics. Augustine was also the first Black woman to serve in the federal cabinet, holding the position of Minister of State for Multiculturalism and the Status of Women from 2002 to 2004. Beyond her political career, she has been an advocate for education and social justice, leaving a lasting impact on Canadian society.
