John Harvard
John Harvard was an English minister and philanthropist, best known for being one of the founders of Harvard College in 1636, which later became Harvard University. He bequeathed his library and half his estate to the institution, which was named in his honor after his death in 1638. The statue of John Harvard, located on the university's campus, is often touched by students and visitors, with some believing that rubbing his toe brings good luck, although this practice has no historical basis.
