Joka Baletić

Joka Baletić, born in 1924 near Nikšić, was a courageous young woman who became a symbol of resistance during World War II. A member of the partisan movement, she was known for her bravery, especially during her trial and execution, where she famously refused to allow her executioner to place the noose around her neck. She is remembered as the first woman executed in Montenegro and is honored for her valor and sacrifice.
