José Avelino Pereira

José Avelino Pereira, also known as Chinelo, is the president of the National Union of Retirees of Brazil (Sinab) and a controversial figure in Brazilian labor relations. He has been implicated in a major investigation concerning unauthorized deductions from retirees' pensions, with allegations that his union collected significant amounts without proper consent. Despite facing numerous legal challenges and having a history of being arrested for suspected public resource embezzlement, his political connections, particularly with the Minister of Social Security, have allowed him to maintain a position of influence, including a seat on the National Council of Social Security. His defense claims he has not been formally accused of any wrongdoing.
